MASTER'S DEGREE IN MATERIALS AND PROCESSES

The Master’s Degree in Materials and Processes was created by Agreement 47 of June 13, 1984 of the Higher University Council and began its work in January 1987.

Within the field of action of the different engineers, it is directly related to the design and construction of structures, machines or products, tasks in which one must have solid knowledge in materials and their manufacturing processes. The Programme has taken as its subject the methods and tools of technological research applicable to the generation and adaptation of technologies in the areas of materials and manufacturing processes, to improve the mechanical behaviour of parts and products in general, used in industrial applications.

Candidate Profile

The Master's degree in Materials and Processes is aimed at professionals whose curricula seen in the undergraduate have the subjects, the intensity and content which the Postgraduate Advisory Committee considers to meet the minimum requirements for the successful development of the Master’s Degree and which are approved by the Council of the Faculty of Engineering.

Graduate profile

The graduate from the Master’s degree in Materials and Processes graduated from Universidad Nacional de Colombia is a professional who will be competent to advance research processes, technological adaptation and/or characterization in the areas of materials and their processes, enabling him to work in product development, quality control or university research and teaching departments.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

  • Pay the registration fees from Thursday 15 October to Thursday 29 October 2020 until 15:00.
  • Register via the Internet from Thursday 15 October to Thursday 29 October 2020 until 23:59.
  • Fill out the web application for resumes and applicant supports from Monday 02 November until 16:00 on Friday 06 November 2020. The instructions for this application will be sent on Saturday 31 October 2020 to the e-mail address provided when registering (please also check your spam box).
  • Knowledge test presentation: Monday 09 to Friday 13 November 2020.
  • Interviews: Monday 16 November until Friday 20 November 2020.
  • Publication of final admission results: Monday 23 November 2020.

ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION

  • Document 1 - Candidate cover letter:
    • The applicant: (1) explains his/her professional and personal reasons for pursuing a Master's degree, (2) reports on his/her capabilities, achievements and merits, both academic and professional, (3) comments on his/her work or research experience in the possible area of work, (4) clarifies what his/her potential sources of funding will be, and (5) reports on his/her availability of time to devote to studies.

NOTE:Those people who enter by early admission or automatic admission (National University of Colombia) must apply for the sending of documents in order to register their resume in the program.

SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTATION

The reception of documents will be carried out by filling out a web application, in which the supports and documents mentioned in the previous section will be loaded. Each applicant will receive an email from the Academic Vice-Deanship of the Faculty with the corresponding web and instructional link.

The Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Colombia, is not responsible in case the applicant cannot enter his data and documents satisfactorily through the web application, due to the demand of simultaneous users exceeding the capacity of the system. it is recommended to advance the process before the closing date

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Advance the document loading process prior to the closing date.
  • Verify that you have all required documents, each in PDF format (only) and that it does not exceed the size of 10MB.
  • Allow sufficient time to load the documents. Loading of documents can be done in parts, closing each time you finish loading each part of the requested documentation.
  • The documents related to a (*) are optional, the others are mandatory. However, these supports give points within the qualification of the resume, it is recommended to attach them in case of having them.
  • To make changes to documents you have previously loaded, you must load the new document and save the changes. The new document will replace the previously loaded one.
  • The application using a set of choices indicates the number of records loaded in each section and points in red to the section in which there are no loaded supports.
  • Previously contact the people you will relate to as references, and make sure that you enter the recommendations within the set deadline.
  • After loading the entire documentation, it will be enough to log out to save it. This information will be stored and sent automatically to the evaluators after application closure.

Exams Assessment Criteria

The test presented is for general academic skills.

Interview Assessment Criteria

  • Consistency with the cover letter
  • General knowledge of the work lines of the program.
  • Motivation for the Master’s degree at Universidad Nacional de Colombia
  • Communication skills (argumentation).

Minimum admission mark

The minimum admission mark after weighting all the components of the entrance examination shall be 3.0 out of 5.0
